In the 1960's, in Edinburgh, on the way to meet a university friend for lunch, I regularly passed a music shop. In the window was a practice chanter and tutor book. And so the ambition to play the bagpipe began.

This ambition was not realised until I was over fifty, when one of my pupils expressed a desire to learn the pipes. The end of the story is that I did , and he did not.  I found a night class in Sutton, and some years later, my ambition has been fulfilled, although I still have a long way to go.

Schiehallion practises twice a week, quite a commitment, but it has certainly been worth it. The people are friendly, and the practices are well structured and enjoyable.
